Some of My Favorite Things

In my effort to minimize, I've been scrutinizing my possessions, deciding what's worthy of making the final "I'll keep it" cut. I thought it would be fun to show some of these "things", the ones that hold enough sentimental value that make them worth holding on to.

So, here they are, a few of Danne's favorite things:

This is an old matchbook holder from Grammy's house that I've loved since I was a little kid

Also from Grammy, her little bible from 1930 and the rosary beads that she gave me that are blessed by the Pope

My collection of old cameras

The illustration of Fanne that Dan drew for me for my birthday a few years ago

My mini cowboy boot keychain from a road trip that Tim and I took and a souvenir change purse from my friend Cristiam

This awesome illustration of a traditional Polish woman that I got from a bookshop in Portland, ME

and last but certainly not least, these light-up praying hands that I found at an antique store in Punxsutawney when I went down for Groundhog Day a few years ago (yes, I really went to Punxsutawney for Groundhog Day haha)

  1. Please tell me that Arty the Armadillo handbag made the cut! HOWEVER - if he's going into the toss pile I'd be just delighted to adopt that guy and give him a new home!

  2. I could never toss Arty! He's been hibernating for a while though, he might need to make a comeback in 2011

  3. Also, I've decided to go ahead and jump on-board with this challenge. I'm starting with my jewelry box and moving on to old art supplies, etc. I'm hoping that in watching me clear some space Brendan might be inspired to join in. Don't worry, I won't hold my breath. Remember his senior thesis on finding and keeping stuff? Yeah, that was only the beginning of what's sure to continue as a life long hobby. I'm sure you can imagine the kinds of "stuff" we have - all of which is cared for carefully and tenderly, packed and stored in the most organized way. We'll see what happens...

  5. Old art supplies has been a problem for me. I haven't touched any of my paint since 2002 (literally) but I feel like I shouldn't get rid of it because I do want to paint again someday. Is it even good still? How long does paint last?

and double yes, I want to have more photos on here too and I think February might be some sort of art lent, probably drawing or photo, i'm still trying to figure it out...

  6. You should definitely pull all of that stuff out and see if it has dried up at all. I pulled out some of my old guache paint last winter only to find that it was as hard as a rock and not usable.

For me, it's the jewelry making supplies. Miniature saws and metals scraps? Buh-bye!

Can't wait to see a month of art lent! Woohoo!

  9. Yes! I want to see an old paintings post!

Lord knows I have piles of old art from school. I'm not sure what to do with mine either. I'm not even sure that I'm ready to go back and look at it all again yet... Good luck!
